If you need an all-around solid flashlight, plenty of reviewers are willing to vouch for the ThruNite Archer 2A V3. Powered by two AA batteries, its maximum output is lumens—more than enough for a nighttime walk through the woods—with an impressive maximum beam distance of yards. Experts at The Sweethome say this is the one to beat for its combination of ease of use, brightness, and value. This ThruNite Archer is relatively light at 1. Runtime ranges from 17 hours on low to minutes on high.

The two-button controls are intuitive and easy to use, owners say, but some say it stopped working after a drop or report other durability issues.

When we left the flashlight on at that setting, it would run for about an hour and a half before the batteries would die. Thousands of owners say there are lots of reasons the J5 Tactical V1-Pro is a best-seller, but first among them is the reasonable price. Powered by a single AA battery, its maximum output is lumens with a beam distance of feet. There are two lighting modes on this flashlight, high and low, plus a strobe function. Other features include adjustable focus—you can zoom in or widen the beam.

On high, it should last at least an hour, though a few weeks is more typical under normal use. The Anker Tactical Flashlight is equipped with three ultra-bright LED bulbs that have a powerful maximum output of 1, lumens. That makes it great for outdoor applications where you need as much light as you can get—and the 1,foot beam is hard to beat in a flashlight this size. This flashlight takes eight hours to fully charge and lasts up to six hours of continuous use without dimming.

It also has a wrist strap for easy carrying. There are three light settings—low, medium, and high—as well as strobe and S. It weighs just over a pound and is seven inches long, making it a manageable size for your glove compartment or camping pack. It can be safely dropped from heights up to a meter.

We dropped it from a much loftier height a two-story staircase! It has a maximum output of lumens and can throw a beam up to meters.

This flashlight is water-resistant, shockproof, and made of aircraft-grade anodized aluminum. There are three light levels—low, medium, and high—as well as a strobe function. The battery can be recharged 1, times and the LED light should last at least 50, hours. Powered by two AA batteries, the Mini Maglite can throw a beam up to meters and has a maximum output of lumens. There is a single brightness setting.

Runtime is about 2. If you do a lot of camping or boating and need a robust light that can stand to get wet, try out the Stanley FL5W10 Waterproof Spotlight. Unlike traditional flashlights, this Stanley has an ergonomic grip that extends down from the light and a trigger-like button — on first glance, the design is similar to that of a hair dryer. There are two light modes, high and low, and it includes a home and car charger.

Runtime is up to 14 hours on a full charge. But there are some users who say it stopped working after a few weeks or months. If you need reliable, hands-free light for a defined area but still want the precision of a flashlight for other uses, a lantern flashlight like the Samlite 4-in-1 Rechargeable LED Lantern Flashlight can give you the best of both worlds. This powerful model has a maximum brightness of lumens and an impressive beam distance of meters.

It runs on two lithium-ion batteries. The Samlite has a lot of slick features.Remember Me? Front Page What's New?

Re: New Maratac AAA Brass flashlight Copper is not practical for large lights because of the weight but for small lights, it's a great way to provide a little extra thermal mass and thermal conductivity without the extra weight becoming a problem.

That said, copper is about as good as it gets as far as flashlight metals go so all other things being equal, it's going to however slightly outperform the brass light.

So as I see it, the brass is redundant unless you just really like the look which is completely understandable from one flashaholic to another in which case you should go for it just because you want too. Plus, one day you'll find your stainless one and you'll be very close to a complete set which I might add is one of the most affordable albeit most venerable flashlight collections one can possess.

Its brass and brass is second on my list to copper. Cool they decided to add another option! Now if only they started making more cu 's. I never got around to picking one up and i've kicking my own butt since for it. They seem very well made. I want someone out there to covert one of them to led for me, unless I would be better off with 'just' a replacement drop-in led bulb I'd be happy to donate the other light as a host if anyone wants to mod it for a CPF auction.

Wonder if the dorcy 1aaa circuit board could fit in the body somehow with an nice nichia led. Does terralux make a screw type led? He also said they tried leds with not much success output wise. Let me know what you wind up doing. The bulb holder seems to be large enough to dissipate the heat if underdriven at mA so a regulated circuit might be a good thing. The instructions that came with the flex lite read that it uses replacement bulbs The bulb that came with the light is 2.

I hope And besides its got to be at least a 3watt luxeon damm the heat! Might have to go to loews or home depot and check maybe they have something I can use.

I'm sure I would need help from fellow CPR'ers. One thing I learned modding lights is that the first one is not as good and clean as the second one or the third etc. I would gladly mod you your lights as soon get the logistics ironed out.

Yesterday I went into a fishing store that I had never been in before and saw the flex lite. I thought 'bet cpf'ers would be interested in that thing Does that qualify as a syncronicity? Any Jungians out there?Over the last fortnight, I have been scrounging through several online stores, perusing the various hosts available for purchase. What I have found is that hosts alone are limited in variety and are mainly suited bodies.

This is by all means not a complete list, so feel free to add more and I will update accordingly. Some of the hosts listed on this thread will be P60 compatible. XinTD C8. Torpedo B2 Stainless Steel.

I can only find one at the moment, the A1 which I wrongly put under AA prior to your question. Know of any others? Slim AA zoomie.

Thanks for the suggestions Pregulla! Those look like great lights, however the list is for hosts only without any pre-installed LED s and components. Be forged in fire and tempered by knowledge. If not, you will either lack the courage to fight for your ideals or lack ideals worth fighting for.

Flashlight body (Host)

This is an awesome list of a lot of hosts currently available, so thx Some hosts are to find at several vendors, sometimes even cheaper. But they can be googled easily, so this list is a wonderful start to get the overview. Nice find. Brilliant, thanks for compiling this. Now I am become death, the destroyer of worlds. Thanks RaceR Thank you for pointing that out!

Has anyone found something like this Courui host anywhere? I have been looking something like this and also something big host that has space for like 6- or more XM-L2 leds.

But no luck so far. Any updates on a AAA host? Looking to build a single programable mode or LMH no memory lamp to clip to an aircraft pilot headset. No guts are in this light yet. There are two options for the host from MechForce. The titanium version is the same as my previous full flashlight review, linked above.

I was able to build it out successfully on my first try! The light ships in a plastic container with foam. This host is impeccably built. It really looks like a brand new shiny penny. Note that a special tool is available specifically for this task! The optic is installed, but no emitters or mcpcbs are. I love it! It also has the weight of copper…. Look down the cell tube, and you can see that the switch parts are held in place by the same type retaining ring as the pill is.

This all brings us to the head of the light, which is where you have to add bits in order to have a working light. Lots of heft there. And also lots of tritium slots!! The optic comes out easily, and reveals the shelf where the board with emitters will go. Note that hole, and not the quality of this build.

Clean up the side that houses the emitters and optic. You want this to be as clean and smooth as possible, since this is how heat will transfer away from the emitters. Officially W 1.
